Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has finally opened up about her long-running feud with fellow singer Seyi Shay, offering fresh insight into what led to their infamous 2021 salon confrontation.
In a candid conversation on Off Air with Gbemi O and Toolz, Tiwa explained that the rift stemmed from a diss track and false rumours alleging that she was sabotaging other female artistes in the industry.
The “Somebody’s Son” hitmaker dismissed the claims as entirely untrue, stressing that she has always been a strong advocate for women’s empowerment in music.
“I heard that they thought I blocked their bag. How? If you’ve heard from anybody that I tried to block your bag, mention the person so I can address it,” Tiwa said.
She went on to recall losing a major endorsement deal to Seyi Shay in 2017 after giving birth to her son, Jamil. “I was taken off the Pepsi campaign when I had Jamil, and Shay was booked for it. So how am I stopping anyone’s bag?” she questioned.
The feud between both singers reached a boiling point in 2021 when they clashed at a Lagos salon — a moment that quickly went viral on social media and divided fans across the industry.
Although Seyi Shay later claimed she had tried to make peace, Tiwa’s recent comments suggest the conflict was deep-rooted, fuelled by gossip and long-standing misunderstandings.
Despite the tension, fans remain hopeful that both artistes will eventually put their differences aside and reunite — a move that many believe would mark a powerful moment for women in Afrobeats.
