The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists following a violent clash between rival groups in Onireke and Isashi, Badagry area of Lagos.
Command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday, noting that the suspects — aged between 28 and 43 — were apprehended during a swift, coordinated operation that prevented further bloodshed and restored calm to the affected communities.
According to Adebisi, police officers responded to a distress call around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday reporting an ongoing fight between two rival cult groups in the area.
“The tactical team and detectives arrived promptly at the scene, rescuing three injured victims who were immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention. Sadly, one of the victims was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at Badagry General Hospital,” she said.
A subsequent raid on the area led to the arrest of five suspects believed to be directly involved in the deadly confrontation.
Recovered items from the suspects included:
One locally made pistol
Two pump-action guns
52 live cartridges and two expended shells
A Toyota Avalon car (registration number KTU 610 JB)
A laptop, mobile phones, and other dangerous weapons.
SP Adebisi added that the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court after the ongoing investigation is concluded.
She further revealed that efforts are underway to apprehend other cult members still at large, with heightened patrols and surveillance to prevent reprisals.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, lauded the officers for their professionalism and quick response.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating cultism and other violent crimes across Lagos State.
Jimoh also urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to promptly report any suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
