Residents of Olateju Street, Lekki Phase One, Lagos, woke up on Sunday to a disturbing scene after three male labourers were found brutally murdered in their makeshift home.
The victims, whose identities have not yet been confirmed, were reportedly casual workers known in the area for running errands and engaging in daily labour. They had been living together in a temporary structure erected within the premises of a building on the street.
A resident, who identified himself only as Alfred, said the men were asleep when unknown assailants stormed the room. “They dragged them out and hacked them with machetes. By the time people got there, the three of them were lying in their own blood with deep cuts all over their bodies,” he recounted.
Another member of the community, who belongs to the Lekki Estate Residents Association, described the attack as shocking and unprecedented for the area. “We’ve never seen anything like this here. It has thrown the community into panic, and security measures are already being reinforced,” he said.
Although the motive behind the killings remains unclear, some residents speculated that the attack could be linked to a cult clash or an unresolved dispute involving the deceased.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages were not returned.
This incident comes weeks after another violent killing in the Ibeju-Lekki axis, where a skit maker identified as Austin was dragged out of his home and hacked to death by suspected cultists.
The fresh killings have raised concerns about rising insecurity in parts of Lagos, particularly in areas bordering Lekki and Ibeju-Lekki.
