Atletico Madrid are closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea defender Renato Veiga, with the Portuguese youngster reportedly approving a summer transfer to the Spanish capital.
The LaLiga giants shifted their attention to Veiga after ending their chase for Cristian Romero due to Tottenham’s €70m asking price. Atletico see the 20-year-old as a long-term solution to their defensive issues following last season’s struggles.
According to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, personal terms between Veiga and Atletico are almost agreed, while journalist Matteo Moretto added that the player has already said “yes” to the move.
Chelsea are open to a sale but turned down Atletico’s opening €35m bid. French outlet L’Equipe claims the Blues want €40m, including performance bonuses.
Veiga, who only joined Chelsea earlier this year, is being viewed by Atletico as a strategic investment rather than a short-term fix.
