Prominent political figures and business leaders have lauded President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of former Minister of Works, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, as Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Board.
The commendations came during a reception held in Adeyeye’s honour on Thursday night in Abuja, attended by top dignitaries including Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji; Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele; former Ekiti Governors Ayodele Fayose and Segun Oni; and ex-Nasarawa Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura.
Also in attendance were Senator Olu Adetumbi, NPA Managing Director Mohammed Bello-Koko, Senator Iyiola Omisore, former Ebonyi Deputy Governor Kelechi Igwe, and Senator Yemi Adaramodu, among others.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele praised Adeyeye’s loyalty to President Tinubu, noting his early commitment to the political movement.
“If anyone had told me it would take this long for Senator Adeyeye to be appointed, I would have doubted it. He was one of the first to stand by this cause, and today is proof that loyalty pays,” Bamidele said, urging NPA staff to cooperate with the new chairman.
Former Defence Minister Musiliu Obanikoro also applauded Adeyeye, recalling his active role in the South-West Agenda for Tinubu (SWAGA).
“You worked tirelessly for this cause when it was not popular. This appointment is well deserved, and I believe more recognition will come,” Obanikoro said.
Governor Oyebanji described the appointment as a major honour for Ekiti State.
“The President gave this to Ekiti, and he could not have chosen better. Adeyeye is loyal, experienced, and patriotic,” Oyebanji stated, commending the unity of Ekiti leaders present at the event.
In his remarks, Adeyeye thanked President Tinubu for keeping his promise, pledging to work harmoniously with NPA management and stakeholders.
“The President assured me of this and delivered. We’re ready to move the Ports Authority forward,” Adeyeye said.
He also reaffirmed support for Oyebanji ahead of the next Ekiti governorship election, calling for an end to divisive politics in the state.
