Linda Yaccarino has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of X (formerly Twitter), ending her two-year tenure at the helm of the social media platform now owned by Elon Musk.

In a post shared on X on Wednesday, Yaccarino confirmed her resignation without disclosing the exact reason behind her decision. She did, however, reference the platform’s transition into “a new chapter” following its integration with Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI.

“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏,” Yaccarino wrote. “When Elon Musk first shared his vision for the platform, I recognized the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to a bold transformation.”

Reflecting on her time in leadership, Yaccarino highlighted milestones achieved during her tenure—including efforts to reestablish advertiser trust, enhance user safety, and expand the platform’s features. She credited the team for their dedication in pushing forward innovations like Community Notes and the upcoming launch of X Money.

“The work we’ve done to safeguard users, particularly children, and to rebuild confidence among advertisers has been monumental,” she added. “Together, we’ve turned the business around and laid the groundwork for a stronger future.”

Yaccarino also praised X as a digital town square that amplifies diverse voices and cultural influence, saying the success of the platform was made possible by its users, partners, and internal teams.

Her departure marks a significant shift as X continues to evolve under Musk’s broader tech ecosystem, especially with the growing influence of xAI. Musk, who also leads Tesla and SpaceX, brought Yaccarino on board in mid-2023 after acquiring Twitter in a $44 billion deal. Before joining X, Yaccarino was a prominent advertising executive at NBCUniversal.
