Governor Dapo Abiodun has called on Nigerian youths to seize emerging opportunities in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to secure their future and remain globally competitive.

He made the call on Thursday during the official opening of Window on America, a US-supported ICT and learning center, at the Ogun Tech Hub located along Kobape Road, Abeokuta. The project is a collaboration between the American Consulate, GFA Technologies, and the Ogun State Government.

Governor Abiodun described the centre as a product of strategic public-private partnership, facilitated through the state’s Bureau of Information Technology and the U.S. diplomatic mission, with GFA Technologies playing a key operational role.

“This facility represents more than a physical space — it is a gateway to global collaboration, innovation, and youth empowerment,” the governor said. “We believe in preparing our youths not just to compete locally, but to thrive in a digital world.”

Highlighting Ogun State’s digital transformation agenda, Abiodun noted that investments have been made in areas like fibre-optic connectivity, digital skills training, and innovation clusters to drive inclusive growth.

“This hub will foster knowledge sharing, peer collaboration, and skills development. It opens doors for our youths to engage with counterparts across the globe, not just in the United States,” he added.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that the centre offers access to more than just books or internet — it provides tools essential for shaping the workforce of the future. Services available at the centre include digital literacy workshops, discussions on global affairs, English language learning sessions, and access to American-authored books and multimedia content.

Speaking at the event, Acting U.S. Consular General, JoEllen Gorg, praised the initiative as a model of effective partnership and visionary governance. She said the newly launched centre is part of a growing network of 29 American Spaces across Nigeria — and the second in Ogun State.

According to her, Window on America is designed to equip young Nigerians with tools for leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation, and cultural exchange. She encouraged students, teachers, entrepreneurs, and creatives to make full use of the resources available, including modern computers, fast internet, and access to a vast e-library of academic publications.

Gorg assured participants of continued support from the United States in developing Nigeria’s human capital, particularly in education, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Also speaking at the event, Debo Omololu, CEO of GFA Technologies, revealed that the company has so far invested over ₦400 million in Ogun State and has employed more than 1,000 software engineers. He urged young people to take full advantage of the new facility to better position themselves for global relevance.

Prior to the launch, the Acting Consular General paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abiodun at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
