Real Madrid’s La Liga ambitions suffered a major blow on Sunday night following a surprise 1–0 defeat to Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu, a result that could benefit rivals FC Barcelona in the title race.

Despite dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities, Madrid were unable to find the back of the net. Getafe capitalised on one of their key moments in the 39th minute when Martín Satriano fired a first-time shot into the top-right corner, stunning the home crowd of over 65,000 spectators.

Madrid pushed hard for an equaliser but lacked precision in front of goal. Vinícius Júnior tested goalkeeper David Soria early on, while Gonzalo García missed a clear opportunity from close range. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aurélien Tchouaméni also tried their luck, but Soria remained resolute between the posts.

Substitute Rodrygo nearly restored parity with a header that drifted narrowly wide, and Franco Mastantuono saw a late effort denied in stoppage time as Madrid intensified their pressure.

Frustration mounted in the closing stages, with several bookings issued to Madrid players, including Vinícius Júnior and Tchouaméni. Mastantuono was eventually sent off deep into added time, while Getafe were also reduced to ten men after Adrián Liso received his second yellow card.

In the end, Madrid’s inability to convert sustained pressure into goals proved costly, leaving their title charge vulnerable at a decisive stage of the campaign.
