As the 68th Grammy Awards approach, excitement is building among music fans worldwide. The 2026 ceremony isn’t just about trophies — it could be a historic night filled with record-breaking moments across multiple genres.
South African star Tyla is on the brink of history as she could become the first artist to win Best African Music Performance twice. Standing in her way are Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Omah Lay, all hoping to take the crown.
In hip-hop, Kendrick Lamar has a chance to rewrite the record books. With 22 Grammys already to his name and nine nominations this year, he could surpass Jay-Z’s record of 25 wins to become the most decorated rapper in Grammy history. He’s also in contention to match the long-standing record held by Michael Jackson and Carlos Santana for most Grammys won in a single night.
Pop icon Lady Gaga could also make history. If she wins all seven of her nominations, she would break the record currently shared by Beyoncé and Adele for the most Grammys won by a female artist in one night. She also has a shot at sweeping the three biggest categories — Record, Song, and Album of the Year — a feat achieved by only a select few.
Global superstar Bad Bunny is another major contender. His nominations open the door for several first-ever achievements, including the possibility of a Spanish-language song winning Record or Song of the Year, and a Spanish album claiming Album of the Year. A win would also extend his dominance in the Best Música Urbana Album category.
Other notable potential milestones include:
Billie Eilish becoming the first woman to win Record of the Year three times
Bruno Mars aiming for a fourth Record of the Year win, a Grammy first
Doechii or Cardi B potentially becoming the first solo female rapper to win Best Rap Performance
Chris Stapleton extending his reign in country music categories
Jack Antonoff possibly joining an elite group to win all four major Grammy categories
Rosé making history as the first K-pop act to win Record or Song of the Year
With so many records within reach, the 2026 Grammys promise to be more than just an awards show — it could be a defining night in music history.
