Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has set the music world buzzing after revealing that her next studio album is complete and could arrive in 2026.

The Mavin Records singer and Roc Nation signee shared the update while featured in Spotify’s “Our Frequency” zine, Issue 033, a platform dedicated to spotlighting Black artists and their creative journeys. In the interview, the 23-year-old opened up about her personal growth, artistic evolution, and plans for the year ahead — including new music.

While reflecting on her goals, Ayra casually dropped the major hint fans have been waiting for, saying she’s looking forward to both personal development and releasing her next album in 2026.

Spotify’s Our Frequency series allows artists to speak candidly about their lives and influences, and Ayra used the moment to discuss how growing up across different cultures helped shape her identity and sound.

She spoke about her experiences living between Benin Republic and Nigeria, describing the contrast between both environments.

“Growing up in Benin and Nigeria was two completely different vibes,” she explained, likening Lagos to a fast-paced global city similar to New York, while describing Benin Republic as calm and serene, with a laid-back, coastal feel.

According to Ayra, these contrasting atmospheres played a huge role in shaping who she is today, both personally and musically.

It was within this reflection on growth that she confirmed her excitement for the year ahead, adding:

“In 2026, I’m looking forward to learning how to cook more Nigerian food — and my album. Amen.”

The statement signals a careful, intentional approach to her next project, especially following her Roc Nation management deal signed in July 2025, which oversees her global branding and touring strategy.

Building on a Stellar Run

Ayra Starr’s album tease comes on the back of an already remarkable run. Her 2024 project The Year I Turned 21, which explored themes of self-discovery and adulthood, marked a major turning point in her career.

Since then, she has maintained momentum with hit releases like “Hot Body”, which has surpassed 35 million Spotify streams, and “Who’s Dat Girl” featuring Rema, which has crossed 30 million streams on the platform.

Her international collaborations, streaming dominance, and consistent chart presence have further solidified her position as one of Afrobeats’ leading global exports. As of January 2026, Ayra Starr holds the title of the most-streamed female artist in Nigeria on Spotify.

A Look at Ayra Starr’s Musical Journey

Ayra Starr has released two studio albums so far. Her debut, 19 & Dangerous (2021), later expanded with a deluxe edition in 2022, introduced her bold fusion of Afrobeats, pop, and R&B. The project featured breakout hits like “Bloody Samaritan” and went on to accumulate over 930 million Spotify streams, making it one of the most-streamed albums by a female African artist.

The album also produced the global smash “Rush”, which earned Diamond certification in France and secured Ayra a Grammy nomination at the 66th Grammy Awards in 2024 — the first year of the Best African Music Performance category. The nomination made her the youngest Nigerian female artist ever recognised in that category.

Her second album, The Year I Turned 21, broke further records, debuting on both the US Billboard 200 and the UK Official Albums Chart — a first for a Nigerian female artist. By late 2025, it officially surpassed one billion Spotify streams, another historic milestone.

As of early 2026, Ayra Starr’s catalogue has generated over 3.3 billion streams across all credits, with more than 18 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

With a completed album and global anticipation building, all signs point to 2026 being another defining year for the “Celestial Being” as she continues to push Afrobeats further onto the world stage.
