Media personality Daddy Freeze has weighed in on the ongoing debate comparing Afrobeats star Wizkid with late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, insisting that such comparisons are misplaced.

His comments come amid the public feud between Wizkid and Fela’s son, Seun Kuti, who has repeatedly criticised fans for likening Wizkid to his late father. The situation escalated after Wizkid fired back at Seun, suggesting he had surpassed Fela’s legacy.

Reacting to the controversy, Daddy Freeze argued that Wizkid and Fela represent entirely different kinds of influence. According to him, Fela’s greatness was not defined by music alone, but by his fearless resistance to political oppression and his willingness to suffer personal consequences for speaking truth to power.

He explained that Fela consistently confronted authorities, endured arrests, and used his music as a weapon for social change and activism. These sacrifices, he said, are central to Fela’s legacy and cannot be separated from his art.

Daddy Freeze stressed that Fela’s courage, activism, and readiness to risk everything for freedom are what truly set him apart.

“Until Wizkid is ready to stand up and carry stones to Government House, he shouldn’t compare himself to Fela,” he said. “Fela put his skin in the game. He wasn’t a troublemaker; he was a freedom fighter. Agitation and music go hand in hand—you can’t separate the two. Fela went to jail fighting for our rights.”

The debate continues to trend online, with fans sharply divided over whether modern Afrobeats success can ever be equated with Fela’s revolutionary impact.
