Senegal emerged as champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after edging host nation Morocco 1–0 in a tense final decided during extra time on Sunday night in Rabat.
The championship match remained scoreless after 90 minutes before Pape Gueye struck the decisive goal in the 94th minute, sealing victory for the Teranga Lions and silencing the home crowd at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
The final was filled with late drama, including a VAR intervention that awarded Morocco a penalty deep into extra time. However, Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy produced a crucial save to deny Brahim Diaz, preserving Senegal’s slim advantage.
Despite sustained pressure from Morocco in the closing moments, Senegal held firm to lift the continental crown.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the official team and individual honours for AFCON 2025.
