The Federal Government has praised the Super Eagles for their performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, assuring the team that Nigerians remain proud of them despite their exit in the semi-finals.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, commended the players for representing the country with pride, determination, and discipline throughout the tournament.

According to the minister, the Super Eagles showed strong character, unity, and resilience, even in the face of defeat, and these qualities reflect the true spirit of the nation.

He noted that wearing the green and white jersey goes beyond winning matches, describing it as a symbol of courage, perseverance, and national unity.

“Your effort, commitment, and fighting spirit throughout this competition have earned the respect and appreciation of Nigerians at home and abroad,” Idris said.

He encouraged the team to remain united, learn from the experience, and come back stronger in future competitions, assuring them of the country’s continued support.

“Hold your heads high. Nigeria is grateful for the hope and excitement you gave us during this tournament, and the nation stands firmly behind you,” he added.

Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 campaign came to an end on Wednesday after they lost 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco, following a goalless draw after extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The semi-final clash was tightly contested, with Morocco dominating possession and registering more attacking attempts, but both goalkeepers — Stanley Nwabali for Nigeria and Yassine Bounou for Morocco — produced standout performances to keep their teams in the game.

Despite the efforts of key forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, Nigeria struggled to break down the Moroccan defence, as the hosts eventually secured their place in the final through penalties.
