Afrobeats star BNXN may have a knack for scoring hits, but when it comes to romance in Lagos, the singer says he’s running on empty. The “Outside” crooner sparked a lively debate on social media after admitting that love in Nigeria’s sprawling megacity has become nearly impossible for him to find.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he dropped a blunt confession that many Lagosians instantly related to:
“To find love for Eko too hard for me o.”
The post needed no further context. It immediately unlocked an online floodgate of reactions, jokes, and painfully honest stories from residents who understand how ruthless the city can be emotionally and otherwise.
BNXN’s remark quickly lit up X as fans shared their own Lagos-dating theories: from the city’s fast-paced lifestyle to sky-high expectations, financial pressure, and the infamous “everybody belongs to everybody” allegations. If Lagos had a relationship status, many agreed it would be: “It’s complicated.”
For longtime followers of BNXN, his frustration isn’t surprising. Love and heartbreak have been recurring chapters in his public journey.
Back in 2022, a leaked private video and allegations from a woman claiming a relationship with him put the singer under intense scrutiny. Moments later came his emotional confession where a visibly distraught BNXN admitted he was “incapable of loving anybody in this world asides Peggy.”
He took full responsibility, writing, “Na me just dey do rubbish. For the first time in my life, I’m heartbroken and me cause am.”
Those experiences helped shape his 2023 album Sincerely, Benson, a project soaked in vulnerability and self-reflection. Still, his latest tweet suggests that even after pouring his heart into music, real-life love in Lagos remains elusive.
Ironically, while his romantic life seems confusing, BNXN’s career is going the opposite direction—upwards, consistently.
Since winning the Headies Next Rated award in 2022, the singer has stayed on a winning streak. His sophomore album Captain, released in July, is already one of Nigeria’s most-streamed albums of 2025 on Spotify.
But success, as he’s showing, doesn’t always guarantee emotional stability. BNXN’s tweet captures a truth many Lagos residents quietly live with: in a city powered by ambition and survival, genuine love can sometimes feel like a luxury.
For now, BNXN may continue topping charts, but when it comes to romance, Eko still refuses to cooperate.
