CKay has officially joined one of streaming’s most exclusive circles as his global smash, Love Nwantiti (ah ah ah), crosses the one-billion mark on Spotify. The achievement places the Nigerian singer among Africa’s most streamed artists ever and further cements the song’s status as one of Afrobeats’ biggest cultural exports.
Released quietly in 2019 before exploding into a TikTok sensation two years later, Love Nwantiti has now become only the second Nigerian song in Spotify history to pass a billion streams.
With this milestone, CKay enters the same league as the select African acts who have previously hit the benchmark.
Rema was the first to do it in 2023 with the Selena Gomez remix of Calm Down.
Tyla followed in early 2025 when Water became the first solo African song to reach one billion streams.
CKay now completes the trio of African stars who have broken into this elite group with the solo version of their music.
Though it debuted on CKay’s 2019 EP CKay the First, Love Nwantiti only became a worldwide obsession in 2021. Its airy production, mellow bounce, and unforgettable “ah ah ah” hook made it a perfect match for TikTok, where it dominated trends and leaped into international charts.
International remixes also helped fuel the fire particularly the Dj Yo! & AX’EL version, which has over 684 million Spotify streams on its own.
By early 2022, combined streams across streaming platforms had already sailed past 1.5 billion, long before the original version hit the billion mark on Spotify this year.
Love Nwantiti is the most certified Nigerian song in U.S. history, currently sitting at 8x Platinum under the RIAA just two certifications away from becoming Afrobeats’ first-ever Diamond record.
The hit has also racked up extraordinary certifications around the world, including:
20x Platinum (2x Diamond) in India
Diamond in France
2x Platinum in the UK
4x Platinum in Canada & Poland
6x Platinum in Portugal
Platinum certifications across Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, New Zealand
Gold in Australia
The track’s impact has been just as enormous on the charts. It peaked at:
No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100,
No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200,
No. 3 on the UK Official Singles Chart,
and hit No. 1 in India, Norway, and Switzerland.
Fueled by TikTok and global fan-led virality, Love Nwantiti has become one of the most recognizable Afrobeats records of all time.
With total career streams now surpassing 5.5 billion across digital platforms, this new Spotify landmark reinforces CKay’s position as one of Africa’s most influential hitmakers. Love Nwantiti isn’t just a viral moment it’s a modern classic, a template for global Afrobeats success, and a defining record for an entire era.
