Backlash as Veekee James says she admires women who pay bills without their husband’s support

Nigerian fashion designer Veekee James has stirred controversy online after expressing strong admiration for women who independently handle their household responsibilities without relying on their husbands.

While speaking at the LadiesTalk conference, the award-winning designer praised women who work tirelessly to provide for their families, noting that such strength and commitment deserve recognition.

According to her, the women she respects most are those who earn their own money, feed their children, support their homes, and even cater to their husbands and staff without waiting for financial assistance from their spouses.

In her words:
“The kind of woman that stands out to me is the one who doesn’t sit around waiting for her husband’s money. She works with her hands, provides for her home, feeds her husband, her children, and even her staff.”

Her remarks, however, have generated mixed reactions on social media, with many users debating whether her statement uplifts hardworking women or indirectly places pressure on wives to shoulder financial burdens alone.
