Nigeria will be strongly represented at the 2025 CAF Awards as Victor Osimhen and Rasheedat Ajibade have both made the final shortlist for the continent’s top honours. Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and Bayelsa Queens forward Shakirat Moshood also secured spots in their respective categories.

CAF released the final nominees on Sunday ahead of the award ceremony holding on Wednesday, November 19, in Rabat, Morocco. The awards celebrate standout performances between January 6 and October 15, 2025.

Men’s Player of the Year

Osimhen—currently shining at Galatasaray—made the final three alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and PSG’s Achraf Hakimi. His nomination continues Nigeria’s strong run in the category, following his own win in 2023 and Ademola Lookman’s triumph in 2024.

Women’s Player of the Year

In the women’s category, PSG forward Rasheedat Ajibade is shortlisted with Morocco’s Ghizlaine Chebbak (Al Hilal) and Sanaa Mssoudy (AS FAR). Ajibade’s leadership and her role in guiding the Super Falcons to their 10th WAFCON title were key to her recognition.

Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie—now with Brighton & Hove Albion—earned a spot alongside Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi and South Africa’s Andile Dlamini. Her consistent club and national team performances made her one of the standout keepers of the year.

Women’s Young Player of the Year

Bayelsa Queens striker Shakirat Moshood also made the final shortlist after an impressive year that saw her star in domestic competitions, finish top scorer at the WAFU B Champions League qualifiers, and captain the Flamingos at the U-17 World Cup.

CAF noted her rapid rise and impact as major reasons behind her nomination.

More Awards Coming

CAF added that some categories — including Women’s Coach of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, and Club of the Year — will be revealed after the CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt concludes. Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu is expected to be in contention.

The Women’s Team of the Year list features Ghana, Morocco, and Nigeria, acknowledging their achievements during the review period.

Nigeria’s presence across multiple categories reinforces the country’s growing influence in African football and the standout quality of its players and coaches.
