Veteran Nollywood actor Oyewole Olowomojuore, popularly known as Baba Gebu, has passed away after a brief illness.
The sad news was confirmed by actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod, who announced the veteran’s death on his verified Instagram page on Wednesday.
In an emotional tribute, Afod described Baba Gebu as “a great legend” who succumbed to an undisclosed illness on Tuesday evening.
“It saddens my heart as I announce the passing away of our great legend, a great actor who passed away this evening after a brief illness… BABA GEBU, may your soul rest in peace,” Afod wrote.
Before his passing, Baba Gebu had a long and distinguished career in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba cinema, where he featured in several acclaimed movies and mentored many younger actors.
In 2024, the actor opened up about the loss of his wife, revealing that returning to film sets helped him cope with grief and find healing through his craft. During that time, colleagues like Kunle Afod stood by him, offering emotional and professional support.
Baba Gebu’s passing marks the end of an era for fans of classic Yoruba films who fondly remember his depth, humor, and versatility on screen.
