Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has expressed deep concern over the growing tribal and religious tension in the country, saying the situation has been “depressing” for him.
The award-winning artiste lamented how Nigerians continue to allow political and religious differences to create division, instead of uniting to demand accountability from leaders.
His reaction came amid heated social media debates between Christian and Muslim youths following reports that former US President Donald Trump allegedly threatened to intervene militarily in Nigeria to protect Christians from terrorist attacks.
Describing the development as “unfortunate,” Falz urged Nigerians to stop allowing religion and ethnicity to be used as political tools.
“I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other,” he said. “At some point, we need to start thinking for ourselves.”
Falz made the comments in response to fellow entertainer Nasboi, who had called on Nigerians to unite and hold leaders accountable for corruption and bad governance.
In his post, Nasboi wrote, “It’s time to put our tribes and religions aside and put this country first,” referencing the numerous cases of missing public funds and government scandals that have gone unchecked.
Echoing Nasboi’s message, Falz emphasised that Nigeria cannot progress until citizens begin to think critically and resist divisive tactics from politicians.
According to him, leaders often exploit religious and tribal emotions to cling to power while citizens remain distracted by manufactured conflicts.
