Award-winning Nigerian singer and Grammy nominee, Yemi Alade, has opened up about a brief period of depression she experienced after discovering that she had unknowingly misrepresented her age for three years.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Yemi Alade revealed that she had consistently claimed to be 22 years old, only to later realize she was actually 25 at the time — a realization that left her emotionally unsettled.

“I kept saying I was 22 for three years, and when I found out I was 25, I got depressed for a few days,” she said during the interview.

The singer explained that the moment forced her to confront deeper personal reflections about time, perception, and the pressure often associated with age in the entertainment industry.

Yemi Alade, known for hits like Johnny and Begging, also touched on her past challenges with certain media platforms. In November 2024, she accused Cool FM Nigeria and Clout Africa FM of allegedly blacklisting her music for nearly a year after she declined an invitation to perform at their end-of-year event in 2023. Despite later apologizing, she claimed her songs were not reinstated.

The Mama Africa crooner has also had to address false reports of sexual harassment, which she publicly denied, calling the allegations “stupidity at its peak.”

In recent months, Yemi Alade has been using her social media platforms to share insights about personal growth, emotional resilience, and maintaining healthy boundaries in relationships.
