Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was the star of the night as his brace powered Galatasaray to a 3–1 win over Bodø/Glimt in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash, giving the Turkish champions back-to-back victories in Europe for the first time in years.
The atmosphere at RamsPark in Istanbul was electric from kickoff, and the home crowd didn’t have to wait long for a breakthrough. Just three minutes in, Mario Lemina slipped a clever pass through for Osimhen, who calmly slotted past goalkeeper Nikita Haikin to open the scoring.
The Nigerian forward remained a constant menace, forcing multiple saves from Haikin before capitalising on a defensive blunder in the 33rd minute. A poor backpass from Fredrik André Bjørkan allowed Osimhen to round the keeper and double the lead with ease.
Although the visitors fought back, striking the post through Sondre Brunstad Fet, they couldn’t match Galatasaray’s intensity. Osimhen’s relentless pressing paid off again in the second half when he dispossessed Haitam Aleesami, setting up Yunus Akgün to seal the win at the second attempt.
Bodø/Glimt pulled one back in the 76th minute through Andreas Helmersen, but the outcome was never in doubt as Okan Buruk’s side maintained control to register their 21st win in their last 23 matches across all competitions.
Osimhen’s performance was historic — the 26-year-old now holds the record for scoring in the most consecutive European matches for Galatasaray, surpassing Burak Yilmaz’s 2012 mark.
Since joining permanently from Napoli in August, Osimhen has continued his blistering form, having already scored against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, AZ Alkmaar, Dynamo Kiev, and Ajax in continental competitions.
With two wins and a loss from their opening three Champions League games, Galatasaray now sit in a strong position to advance from their group, while Osimhen continues to strengthen his case for CAF Player of the Year honours.
