Lagos State Government director, Serifat Talabi, has died just four days before her scheduled retirement from civil service and celebration of her 60th birthday.

Talabi, who was the Director of Procurement at the Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASSRA), was reportedly killed by a hit-and-run driver on Saturday while crossing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.

According to sources within the agency, efforts were made to rush her to a hospital, but she was confirmed dead on arrival.

The tragic incident occurred shortly before her planned retirement party, which had been postponed from October 13 to October 22 to allow the agency’s General Manager to attend. Invitations had already been printed and sent to her colleagues, friends, and family members.

An invitation card sighted indicated that the event was to be held at the NERDC Conference Centre, Ikeja, adjacent to the Fela Shrine.

Meanwhile, family sources have announced burial arrangements for the late civil servant. Her wake-keep will hold on October 23, 2025, while the burial service will follow on October 24, both at 10 Ore-Ofe Street, Ara Hall Bus Stop, Ibafo, Ogun State.

Authorities from LASSRA and the Ogun State Police Command have yet to officially comment on the incident.

Talabi’s death adds to the rising number of pedestrian fatalities caused by hit-and-run drivers along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and other major highways connecting Lagos and Ogun States.
