The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported that 148,077 electricity customers were provided with meters across the country in May and June 2025.

According to the commission’s latest factsheet on metering status, 63,180 customers were metered in May, while 84,897 received meters in June. This raised the total number of metered customers nationwide to 6,422,933 as of June 2025. The national metering rate also improved slightly, from 53.78 per cent in May to 54.33 per cent in June.

NERC data showed that total active electricity customers grew from 11,784,842 in May to 11,821,194 in June. By performance, Ikeja DisCo led with a metering rate of 84.65 per cent, followed by Eko (83.33 per cent) and Abuja (73.06 per cent). At the lower end, Yola recorded just 28.55 per cent, while Jos and Kaduna posted 29.51 per cent and 33.46 per cent respectively.

Aba DisCo was the most improved in the period, moving from 37.88 per cent in May to 45.17 per cent in June after installing 12,376 meters. Benin DisCo also crossed the halfway mark, rising to 50.33 per cent from 49.95 per cent.

Despite these gains, seven of the 12 DisCos remain below the 50 per cent threshold, leaving millions of customers unmetered and still facing estimated billing. NERC noted that it continues to enforce the use of energy caps for unmetered customers to limit arbitrary charges, though some DisCos have faced sanctions for non-compliance.
