The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced another upward review of passport application fees, which will take effect from September 1, 2025.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the new rates will apply only to applications made within Nigeria.
Under the new structure, a 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost N100,000, while the 64-page passport with ten-year validity will go for N200,000.
The agency, however, clarified that fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page, five-year booklet and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year booklet.
According to the statement, the adjustment was necessary to “maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring accessibility for citizens.”
This latest review comes barely a year after the Federal Government approved an earlier hike in August 2024, which raised the 32-page passport from N35,000 to N50,000, and the 64-page passport from N70,000 to N100,000, effective September 2024.
The Immigration Service had at the time defended the increment, saying it was needed to sustain the production quality of the Nigerian passport and improve service delivery.
