The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has refuted rumours circulating online claiming that its Managing Director, Ali Nuhu, has passed away.

In a statement released by its Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, the agency described the reports as false, malicious and damaging.

It stressed that Nuhu, who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 12, 2024, remains alive and fully engaged in his role as Chief Executive of the NFC.

The clarification followed a viral Facebook post alleging that Nuhu had died in a car accident, a claim which quickly spread across social media platforms.

“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation has been drawn to the purported passing of Dr. Ali Nuhu… we wish to categorically state that the reports, including videos bearing his pictures, are baseless and untrue,” the statement read.

The corporation also warned those behind the misinformation of possible consequences, adding that steps have been taken to track down the perpetrators.

While acknowledging the concern expressed by the public and industry stakeholders, the NFC urged Nigerians to disregard the rumours and assured that it remains committed to countering such harmful fabrications in the future.
