The United States government has withdrawn more than 6,000 student visas since January 2025, according to the State Department.
Officials disclosed that about 4,000 of the revoked visas were linked to criminal offenses such as assault, driving under the influence, burglary, and alleged support for terrorism.
In addition, student visa and green card holders who openly back the Palestinian cause or criticize Israel’s military actions in Gaza could also face deportation, as such positions are being classified as a threat to U.S. foreign policy.
The revocations come shortly after the U.S. Embassy issued an advisory warning foreign students about behaviors that could endanger their immigration status.
The Trump administration has also rolled out tougher immigration rules, including expanded scrutiny of visa applicants’ social media activity, as part of its broader effort to tighten entry and residency requirements.
