The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the party’s performance in Saturday’s by-elections as a major boost ahead of the 2027 general elections.
APC spokesperson in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, said in a statement on Sunday that winning 12 of the 16 contested seats across federal and state constituencies reaffirmed the party’s dominance and renewed public confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
“With APC dominance reaffirmed, the stage is set for a grand 2027 showdown,” Oladejo declared.
He noted that the polls were the first under the leadership of the new national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, describing the outcome as a landmark that reflected the party’s growing strength nationwide.
According to him, the victories — including the Edo Central senatorial seat, federal constituencies in Kaduna, Jigawa, Ogun and Edo, as well as assembly seats across several states — showed that Nigerians appreciated the government’s efforts to stabilise the economy, tackle insecurity, strengthen infrastructure and implement fiscal reforms.
“In an atmosphere charged with opposition propaganda and economic challenges, the APC stood tall and unshaken,” he said.
Oladejo argued that the by-elections served as a referendum on Tinubu’s administration, adding that the results demonstrated Nigerians’ faith in his Renewed Hope Agenda. He said even in tough times, reforms were already producing tangible results in governance, infrastructure and national cohesion.
He also pointed out that while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed just one seat in Oyo and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) retained a single constituency in Kano, the Labour Party — which enjoyed a social media surge in 2023 — failed to secure a win. APGA, with its Southeast base, picked up two seats in Anambra.
Oladejo credited Yilwatda’s leadership style for the sweeping victories, citing his grassroots engagement and disciplined organisation as key to the outcome.
“These victories are more than statistics; they symbolise the trust Nigerians have placed in Tinubu’s administration,” he said.
He concluded that Nigerians would remember in 2027 which party “stood firm in uncertainty, led with courage, and delivered results,” insisting the APC remained the nation’s party of choice.
