Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree prohibiting the use of foreign-made clothing and related gear for the country’s armed forces, effective January 1, 2026.

Under the new policy, all military uniforms and other apparel must be produced by Russian companies with manufacturing facilities located within the country.

By 2027, the regulation will also cover fabrics and knitted materials, which must be sourced from domestic manufacturers.

The Kremlin says the move is aimed at completely eliminating foreign-sourced clothing and materials from military procurement.

Items affected by the ban include uniforms, insignia, underwear, bedding, footwear, specialised gear, and sanitary supplies — all of which are typically acquired through Russia’s state defence order system.
