Chelsea have been advised to bring back former academy product Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace if they want to mount a serious Premier League title challenge this season.
The suggestion comes in the wake of Levi Colwill’s long-term injury, with the young defender sidelined for much of the campaign after undergoing ACL surgery.
Manager Enzo Maresca has already admitted that central defence is now a “priority” in the transfer window, calling Colwill “a fantastic player” whose absence will be heavily felt.
TalkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham believes Guehi could be the missing piece in Chelsea’s title bid.
“If Chelsea go and get Marc Guehi back from Crystal Palace, I think Chelsea probably win the league,” he said, stressing that bolstering the defence is vital to closing the gap on their rivals.
Guehi, 25, is in the final year of his Palace deal and could be sold to avoid losing him for free next summer. Palace chairman Steve Parish has admitted the club may need to cash in, revealing previous offers had been rejected due to timing and squad depth.
The England international — who made 34 league appearances last season and helped Palace lift the FA Cup — spent 14 years in Chelsea’s youth ranks, making two senior appearances before moving to Selhurst Park in 2021.
Chelsea have already splashed over £240 million on eight new signings this summer, including defenders Mamadou Sarr and Jorrel Hato, though Sarr has been sent on loan to Strasbourg.
