World record holder Tobi Amusan continued her impressive form by winning the 100m hurdles at the 2025 Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) National Trials, held at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos.
The 28-year-old sprinted to victory with a time of 12.57 seconds, securing her fifth national title in the event. Amusan had a swift start out of the blocks and maintained her lead throughout the race.
Behind her, Adaobi Tabugbo claimed second place with a time of 13.03 seconds, while Faith Osamuyi crossed the line third in 13.36 seconds.
The win underscores Amusan’s dominance in the hurdles as she gears up for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled for September.
In the men’s 400m final, Gafar Badmus stormed to victory in 45.71 seconds, outpacing Ezekiel Asuquo, who settled for second with 46.29 seconds, and David Akhalu, who finished third in 46.91 seconds.
There was a dramatic twist in the women’s 400m, as seasoned national champion Patience Okon-George was disqualified in the final. Rising star Favour Onyah, the reigning African U-20 champion, took advantage of the opening to clinch the title in 52.69 seconds.
She was followed by Opeyemi Deborah Oke and Anita Enaruna, who finished second and third, respectively.
