The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom in Lagos State, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has relieved six of his chiefs of their titles for allegedly misrepresenting him at a Labour Party campaign rally held in Apapa.

According to the monarch, the affected individuals attended the political gathering without his knowledge or approval, thereby breaching palace protocol and impersonating him in an official capacity.

Those affected by the disciplinary action include Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko), and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere).

Following the incident, a meeting was convened at the palace on Monday, where Oba Oyegbemi expressed deep disappointment and asserted that no chief is permitted to make public appearances or political representations on behalf of the kingdom without his express consent.

A palace statement made available on Tuesday emphasized the monarch’s stance on discipline and traditional order:

“Kabiyesi reiterated that chiefs serve at his discretion and must not take unilateral actions that undermine the integrity of the palace. Their presence at the event, done without his knowledge, was a direct violation of their roles.”

During the assembly, Oba Oyegbemi also used the opportunity to applaud ongoing developmental projects in Ojora land by the current administration, pledging his continued support to government efforts that promote growth in the area.

The monarch concluded by urging all remaining chiefs to remain transparent and respectful of traditional protocols, especially when it comes to political engagements.
