Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other senior figures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently in a closed-door strategy session in Abuja as discussions intensify around forming a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
The meeting, underway at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, brings together key PDP stakeholders, including ex-Senate President David Mark, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and past PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus.
Also present are former Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), among others. Sources at the venue indicate that the discussions, led by Mark, aim to decide whether the PDP leaders will fully align with a new coalition platform or retain their PDP membership while forming a broad electoral alliance.
This development follows earlier reports that the emerging coalition may adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its operational vehicle for the 2027 elections, with David Mark expected to serve as interim leader. A formal launch of the coalition is reportedly set for Wednesday.
Other notable attendees include Senator Ben Obi, former PDP National Women Leader Josephine Anenih, ex-Organising Secretary Senator Austin Akobundu, former Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, and past National Youth Leader Abdullahi Maibasira.
More updates are expected as the meeting progresses.
