Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has dismissed the emerging opposition coalition against President Bola Tinubu, describing its leaders as “faceless” and lacking credibility.

Speaking in Abakaliki during the 2025 Sallah celebration with the Muslim community, Umahi declared that President Tinubu’s achievements in leadership and national integration make him deserving of a second term in 2027.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions between key opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Peter Obi (Labour Party), and Nasir El-Rufai, aimed at forming a united front to challenge Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.

Umahi argued that such efforts are misguided, saying:

“The coalition is faceless and lacks the credibility to challenge the President. Tinubu is delivering, and Nigerians can see it.”

He urged the South-East region to rally behind the President, praising Tinubu for reversing years of federal neglect by bringing visible federal projects to the region and appointing several South-Easterners to strategic national positions.

Among the notable appointments, Umahi listed his own role as Minister of Works, as well as the Chief of Naval Staff and Minister of Science and Technology — all from the South-East.

“We lost political ground in the past, but this government is bringing us back… We must acknowledge that and support the President.”

He also urged the South-East to shun divisive politics and embrace constructive engagement with the federal government.

On national unity, Umahi commended Tinubu for promoting religious tolerance, citing the President’s decision to lead a Nigerian delegation to the Vatican as a significant move that reflects his commitment to interfaith harmony.

“President Tinubu has started the process of reintegration—we must not waste the opportunity,” he concluded.
