The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ad
ministration has accomplished more in two years than any government before it.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday at the first national dialogue on citizen engagement and national security, organized by the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Idris highlighted several achievements made under the current administration.
“Just last week, we marked the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s government with solid evidence of its transformative impact,” Minister said. “No previous administration has taken the bold steps this government has, from ending the fuel subsidy and disrupting the forex market monopoly to implementing landmark infrastructure projects and launching the student loan initiative and CreditCorp.”
He noted that despite the administration’s rough start, its policies are beginning to bear fruit, with progress visible across various sectors.
“Though the beginning was challenging, we’re seeing declines in food prices, improvements in security, and new momentum in governance through local government autonomy, the introduction of region-focused ministries, and a major push in agriculture with the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development,” he added.
Idris emphasized the importance of trust in governance, noting that unity and national security are tied to strong relationships between the government and citizens.
“In times of insecurity, our strongest asset isn’t military might—it’s the trust between the people and their leaders,” he said.
The minister also praised VON for using its platform to promote national unity and urged participants at the event to translate discussions into actionable steps that foster public trust and accountability.
Prominent attendees included Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Nentawe Yilwatda; Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa; FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed; National Press Council DG Dili Ezugha; NOA DG Lanre Issa-Onilu; NIPR President Ike Neliaku; former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai; and Chinasa Nnam, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
