Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has shared new insights into the events surrounding the #EndSARS protests, explaining why music star Davido eventually stepped back from the movement.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Sowore said the protests had visible figures coordinating efforts, but authorities were uncomfortable with leadership they could not easily influence.

He noted that Davido was actively involved in meetings during the early stages of the protests. However, the situation reportedly shifted when the singer travelled to Abuja for a meeting with former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

According to Sowore, Davido was informed upon arrival that he might be investigated over the death of one of his aides. This development, he said, appeared to change the singer’s stance.

“Davido was present at meetings, but when he got to Abuja, the conversation changed. He then said he wasn’t there to protest,” Sowore explained.

The claims have stirred fresh conversations around the 2020 anti-police brutality protests and the pressures faced by prominent figures who were associated with the movement.
