Nigerian music star Timaya has stirred debate on social media after sharing his blunt opinion about marriage in a video clip circulating online.
In the short clip, the singer suggested that some men may be better off focusing on having children rather than getting married.
“Just born pikin, the pikin go grow, this marriage thing no dey work,” he said.
His comment quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions from fans and social media users who shared different views on relationships, parenting, and marriage.
Several people disagreed with the singer’s suggestion, warning that avoiding marriage could lead to loneliness later in life.
One social media user, identified as Chief & Queen, said being a “baby daddy” might appear easier initially but could have emotional consequences in the long run.
According to the comment, once children grow up and move on with their lives, a person may be left without a partner or emotional support. The user added that while marriage is not perfect, it can provide companionship and shared responsibility.
Another commenter, Sir Bull, linked relationship challenges to cultural differences, suggesting that people should explore relationships outside their usual environment to better understand love and partnership.
A user identified as Okoye also described the singer’s view as overly simplified, noting that marriage requires communication, commitment, and mutual growth to succeed.
Meanwhile, another commenter, Marvis, argued that respect, loyalty, and support between partners remain key factors in building a successful relationship.
The discussion generated widespread reactions online, highlighting differing perspectives on modern relationships and the evolving views on marriage.
