Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has expressed frustration over the rising cost of diesel, revealing that he spent ₦11 million within just one month to power one of his businesses.
In a video shared online, the filmmaker explained that the huge expense was incurred while running operations at KAP Village, a creative and entertainment facility he owns.
According to Afolayan, the increasing price of diesel—now around ₦1,500 per litre—has made it extremely difficult for businesses to survive.
“I have been sad because I can’t cope with ₦1,500 per litre for diesel. In one of the businesses that I run, KAP Village, I spent ₦11 million in just 4–5 weeks on diesel,” he said.
He noted that although the facility already has solar power installed, the cost of running operations remains high due to Nigeria’s unreliable electricity supply, which forces many businesses to depend on generators.
The filmmaker added that the situation has worsened as diesel prices have increased from about ₦1,000 to over ₦1,500 per litre, especially when fuel is purchased on credit and paid for later.
Afolayan therefore appealed to financial institutions and government agencies to support businesses with loans that would enable them upgrade their solar power systems and reduce dependence on diesel.
His remarks highlight the broader challenges faced by many businesses in Nigeria, particularly in cities like Lagos, where inconsistent power supply continues to drive operational costs higher. ⚡
