Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has revealed that she has no plans to step away from music anytime soon, despite launching a new initiative aimed at supporting young African creatives.
The award-winning singer made the disclosure while speaking during the launch of her music foundation, a project created to support emerging talents trying to find their path in the music industry.
According to Tiwa Savage, the initiative was inspired by her own journey and the opportunities she received earlier in life, particularly during her time at Berklee College of Music, where she studied on a scholarship.
She explained that the experience played a crucial role in shaping both her musical abilities and her understanding of the business side of the industry.
“Someone made a decision to invest in me when I didn’t have the full means to invest in myself, and that changed the entire direction of my life,” she said.
The singer noted that she now feels she has the platform, influence and credibility needed to support the next generation of artists through a structured and lasting initiative.
Reflecting on her career, Tiwa Savage also spoke about the challenges she faced on her path to success, stating that many people assume her journey was easier than it actually was.
“People see the stages, the collaborations, the covers and the accolades and assume the path was straighter than it was. It wasn’t,” she explained.
She added that the foundation aims to help talented young creatives who have the passion but lack access to opportunities, while also educating them on the business side of entertainment.
Tiwa Savage emphasised that success in the industry requires more than talent, stressing the importance of understanding contracts, rights and personal value.
Addressing rumours that the initiative might signal a break from music, the singer dismissed the speculation, noting that the foundation exists because of her music career rather than replacing it.
Through both her music and the new initiative, she hopes to inspire a new generation of African creatives to believe in their abilities and pursue their dreams.
