Arsenal strengthened their grip on the Premier League title race on Wednesday night, edging Brighton & Hove Albion 1–0 at the Amex Stadium to extend their lead at the top.
The only goal of the match came in the ninth minute when Bukayo Saka cut in from the right flank and unleashed a shot that deflected through a crowded penalty area, leaving Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen helpless. The strike was especially significant for Saka, marking his 300th appearance for the club.
Brighton dominated possession for large stretches and pushed hard for an equaliser, but Arsenal’s defence remained resolute. Gabriel produced a vital early clearance to stop Carlos Baleba from capitalising on a rare mistake by goalkeeper David Raya, who later made several key saves to maintain the narrow advantage.
In the second half, Brighton continued to press, with Georginio Rutter and Jack Hinshelwood creating chances, but they were unable to break down Arsenal’s disciplined backline. Manager Mikel Arteta introduced Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard to inject fresh energy into the attack and relieve mounting pressure.
Despite Brighton’s late efforts, Arsenal held firm, securing all three points and maintaining momentum as the season approaches its final stages.
The victory pushes Arsenal seven points clear at the summit of the Premier League after 30 matches, taking advantage of Manchester City’s 2–2 draw with Nottingham Forest earlier in the evening.
