Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has clarified reports linking him to the managerial job at Olympique de Marseille, stating that there was no direct contact between him and the French club.
Following Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Chelle’s profile rose significantly across Europe. Reports suggested he was among candidates considered after Marseille parted ways with Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi.
However, the Ligue 1 side ultimately appointed Habib Beye as their new head coach.
Speaking on the Histoires de Foot Podcast, Chelle explained that the contact came only from his representatives:
“At that moment, OM were looking for a coach. So my agency got in touch with the club to, I think, propose me. And then after that, my agent and I didn’t do anything else.”
He stressed that discussions never advanced beyond that initial approach.
Chelle still has one year left on his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation and says his priority is building a strong Super Eagles squad for upcoming international fixtures.
Despite recurring speculation about his future, the Malian tactician appears committed to completing his current deal unless circumstances change.
