Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti has addressed ongoing backlash from Wizkid fans over the “Big Bird” nickname, insisting the moniker belongs to him and predates Wizkid’s rise.

The exchange began during Seun’s Instagram Live session when a fan asked him to drop the nickname, claiming Wizkid is the “Biggest Bird.” Seun dismissed the request, saying he has used the name for years and has no reason to change it.

According to him, Wizkid should create his own original identity rather than asking others to step aside. He also criticised Wizkid’s camp, including DJ Tunez, for failing to shut down comparisons between Wizkid and his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, which he described as disrespectful.

Seun revealed during the live session that he recently received $120,000 solely because he is Fela’s son, stressing that the money was tied to his father’s legacy, not his own work. He described it as evidence that Fela’s influence remains powerful decades after his death.

He questioned Wizkid fans, asking how many people could benefit financially from their fathers’ achievements long after they are gone, and warned them to stop dragging Fela’s name into fan wars.

Seun clarified that his criticism is not directed at Wizkid personally but at fans who, in his view, disrespect history. He challenged Wizkid’s fanbase to channel their energy into something meaningful, such as raising funds for a public project, instead of engaging in online insults.

He also firmly rejected attempts to label Wizkid as the “new Fela,” insisting that his father’s legacy is unique and cannot be compared.
