Ariana Grande has issued a gentle reminder to fans about the harm caused by body-shaming, as conversations about her appearance resurface online during the Wicked: For Good press tour.
Over the weekend, the singer-actress reposted a clip from a December 2024 interview with co-star Cynthia Erivo on her Instagram Stories. In the video, Grande addressed long-standing scrutiny over her looks and urged people to be more mindful.
“Sharing this again with love,” she wrote alongside the old interview clip, where she explained how growing up in the spotlight exposed her to constant commentary about her body.
Grande said she has been publicly examined since her teenage years, describing her early career as feeling like being “a specimen in a petri dish.” She noted that no matter what she changed, critics always found something new to target. “It’s exhausting to protect yourself from that noise,” she said, adding that the casual way people comment on others’ bodies can be “really dangerous.”
While she credits her support system for helping her stay grounded, Grande encouraged fans to take steps to protect their mental and emotional wellbeing. “Block people if you have to, delete the app if you need to—keep yourself safe,” she advised. “No one has the right to say anything about your body.”
Her resurfaced message comes at a time when several Wicked: For Good cast members have faced speculation about their appearances online. Grande herself has pushed back against such commentary before—most notably in a 2023 TikTok video where she explained that the “healthiest” many fans remember her looking was actually during a personal low point, when she was on antidepressants, drinking, and struggling privately.
Grande’s latest reminder arrives as she continues promoting the new Wicked film. The star-studded project, directed by Jon M. Chu, features Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, and Bowen Yang, and premiered in theaters earlier this month.
