Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has dismissed growing comparisons between himself and football greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, saying he is focused on becoming the best version of himself rather than chasing their records.
In a post shared by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter), the Norwegian striker was quoted as saying:
“No, not at all! No one can get close to Ronaldo and Messi, so no… I’m just Erling, a Norwegian guy scoring goals. That won’t change.”
The 24-year-old forward has continued to dominate headlines with his blistering goal-scoring form since joining Manchester City. His consistency in front of goal has drawn inevitable comparisons with Ronaldo and Messi — two of football’s most prolific scorers, each with over 800 career goals.
Despite the hype, Haaland maintains he still has a long way to go.
Currently leading the Premier League scoring charts with 13 goals, Haaland will be aiming to continue his fine form when Manchester City host his former club, Borussia Dortmund, at the Etihad Stadium in their upcoming Champions League clash.
The striker’s humility and focus have continued to endear him to fans and pundits alike, even as debates about who could succeed Ronaldo and Messi in football’s hierarchy continue to rage on.
