As the Super Falcons gear up to face Benin Republic in the second leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, fans are calling for the return of Glory Ogbonna to the national team setup.

The Israel-based defender, who last featured for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, has been missing from recent team lists — a move that’s sparked widespread debate on social media.

Supporters argue that Ogbonna’s international experience, form, and consistency make her an asset the Falcons can’t afford to ignore.

One fan, Laba Gombe, wrote,

“I don’t understand why Glory Ogbonna hasn’t been recalled since the World Cup. She’s played in Sweden, Spain, Turkey, and now Israel — always improving. She’s disciplined, experienced, and plays with heart. That’s the kind of player we need — a fighter.”

Others echoed similar views. Ann Chinyere Precious praised her strength and work ethic, while Abubakar Kasee highlighted her durability, noting that she “rarely misses a match and remains one of Nigeria’s most dependable left-footed defenders.”

Another supporter, Dayyabu Dadinkowa, insisted that national team selection should be merit-based.

“She’s played at AWCON, World Cup qualifiers, and WAFU tournaments — she understands pressure and deserves a comeback.”

Now 26, Ogbonna joined Israeli champions FC Kiryat Gat this season from Beşiktaş and has already lifted the Athena Cup.

Her impressive résumé includes stints with Edo Queens, Umeå IK (Sweden), Santa Teresa (Spain), and ALG Spor (Turkey) — where she won the Turkish Women’s League title.

Capped 14 times for Nigeria, Ogbonna also represented the country at the U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2016 and 2018.
