Morocco has etched its name in football history after clinching the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup with a 2–0 win over Argentina in Monday’s final in Santiago, Chile — a victory that marks the country’s first-ever FIFA title.
The North Africans sealed the win thanks to a brilliant brace from Yassir Zabiri, who struck in the 12th and 29th minutes to stun the home crowd and hand Morocco a deserved triumph.
Despite Argentina’s relentless pressure in the second half, Morocco’s captain Rayan El-Mourabet marshalled a resolute defence, while goalkeeper Youssef Bakkali pulled off a series of key saves to keep a clean sheet.
Morocco’s journey to glory was far from smooth. Drawn in a group with football giants Spain, Brazil, and Mexico, the Atlas Lions topped the group despite losing their opening game to Mexico. They bounced back to defeat Brazil and Spain before navigating a tough knockout path.
The Moroccans overcame South Korea in the round of 16, brushed aside the United States in the quarter-finals, and edged past France on penalties in a tense semi-final.
Their victory over Argentina crowned an unforgettable campaign and made Morocco only the second African nation to lift the U-20 World Cup — following Ghana’s 2009 triumph over Brazil.
The win is being hailed as a defining moment not only for Moroccan football but for the African continent, reaffirming the region’s growing influence on the global stage.
