Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has honoured his late mother, Dr Veronica Adeleke, by commissioning a hostel named after her at Clifford University in Abia State.
The singer arrived with his 30BG crew and nightlife mogul Cubana Chief Priest to unveil the project, sparking excitement among students and fans present at the ceremony.
Davido described the hostel as a tribute to his mother’s legacy as a teacher, philanthropist, and advocate for education, whose values of compassion and learning continue to inspire him. He said her influence remains a guiding force in his music, success, and humanitarian efforts.
According to him, the project represents not only a personal tribute but also a symbol of hope for young Africans pursuing their dreams and striving to make an impact in society.
Reacting to the event, his wife, Chioma, shared the video on Instagram with the caption, “So beautiful.”
During his commencement speech at Clifford University, Davido expressed deep emotion, saying he felt something “bigger than music” as he addressed the graduating class.
He told the students that while talent may open doors, purpose gives life meaning, urging them to use their platforms and voices to build for the future.
Reflecting on his late mother, Davido described her as a teacher and giver whose belief in education and kindness shaped his character. He noted that inaugurating the hostel was more than a tribute—it was a continuation of her legacy, turning love into lasting impact.
He concluded with a heartfelt message: “This one’s for her, for every young African chasing their dream, and for everyone who believes we can rise higher, together. We rise by lifting others.”
