MTN South Africa has rolled out a new range of integrated home and mobile connectivity plans as part of its broader shift toward a “connected home” strategy. The move signals a new phase beyond the company’s previous Ambition 2025 vision.

The initiative was first highlighted by MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita during a media briefing in Johannesburg, where he outlined plans to strengthen MTN’s presence in home connectivity through expanded 5G fixed-wireless access (FWA) and fibre broadband.

According to Mupita, MTN also aims to secure additional spectrum across key markets such as South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana to drive this transformation.

“The opportunity in the home is enormous. With the right spectral assets, we will accelerate FWA and, in some cases, deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH). This investment will set MTN apart and drive future growth and profitability,” Mupita said.

He added that entertainment and gaming would continue to push household data consumption in the coming years.

MTN South Africa’s new Sky Premium plans form the centerpiece of this strategy, offering a blend of mobile and home services for seamless connectivity.

“Connecting the home is a cornerstone of MTN’s long-term growth strategy,” said Bertus van der Vyver, General Manager for Postpaid and Home Solutions at MTN South Africa. “Sky Premium integrates mobile and home connectivity to keep families connected, productive, and entertained.”

Five-Tier Plan Structure

The MTN Sky Premium lineup includes five subscription tiers that combine mobile data, all-network call minutes, home internet discounts, and premium customer care.

Subscribers can enjoy monthly savings ranging from R50 to R800 on MTN’s 5G, LTE Fixed Wireless, or Fibre packages, depending on their plan. Data allowances span from 15GB to 200GB per month.

Existing postpaid users can easily switch or upgrade to the Sky Premium plans, while customers with existing MTN Home Internet or Fibre services can also access discounts of up to R800 monthly.

The launch aligns with MTN Group’s long-term Vision 2030, anchored on three key pillars — Connected Home, Fintech, and Digital Infrastructure.

Through its fintech platform MoMo, MTN plans to introduce more digital financial services while gradually phasing out reliance on USSD technology. Meanwhile, its digital infrastructure division is exploring the deployment of AI-powered and edge data centres across Africa.

“AI is a game-changer,” Mupita noted. “It’s a transformative technology that will reshape productivity and create new opportunities across all sectors.”
