Brazilian football legend Zico has hailed former Super Eagles captain Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha as one of the most gifted players Africa has ever produced.
Speaking on John Obi Mikel’s “Obi One Podcast” on Thursday, the iconic playmaker praised Okocha’s exceptional talent and dazzling style of football, describing his creativity and flair as “fantastic.”
“I like Okocha — a fantastic player. Number 10, Okocha,” Zico said, while also acknowledging other African greats like Samuel Eto’o, George Weah, and Didier Drogba.
Zico, who earned global recognition in the 1970s and 1980s for his technical brilliance and goal-scoring prowess, said Okocha’s artistry on the pitch reminded him of the kind of football that truly entertains fans.
Often called the “White Pelé,” Zico remains one of the most influential voices in world football. His admiration for Okocha adds to the long list of global icons who have celebrated the Nigerian star’s flair and skill — qualities that made him a fan favourite from his days at Paris Saint-Germain, Bolton Wanderers, and with the Super Eagles.
For many football lovers, Zico’s endorsement simply reaffirms what Nigerians have always believed — Jay-Jay Okocha wasn’t just good; he was magic on the ball.
