Kano Gov Appoints Dr. Suraj Sulaiman as New Statistician-General

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of Dr. Suraj Sulaiman as the new Statistician-General and Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics.

The announcement, contained in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, said the appointment takes immediate effect.

According to the statement, Dr. Sulaiman’s appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Associate Professor Aliyu Isa Aliyu, who was recently appointed Commissioner for Livestock Development.

Governor Yusuf directed that the formal handover between the outgoing and incoming Statistician-General be concluded within the week.

An accomplished academic and mathematician, Dr. Sulaiman holds a PhD in Mathematics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2015–2018), where his doctoral thesis focused on “A New Method of Computing the Projective Polynomial Resultant Based on Dixon, Jouanolou and Jacobian Matrices.”

He also earned an MSc in Mathematics from Yasar University, Turkey (2012–2014), and a BSc in Mathematics from Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil (2006–2010). His academic journey began at the College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies, Kano, where he obtained a Diploma in Mathematics Education (2004–2006).

Governor Yusuf congratulated Dr. Sulaiman on his appointment, expressing confidence that his wealth of academic and professional experience would strengthen the Bureau’s capacity for effective data management and analysis.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to data-driven governance, noting that “accurate and reliable statistics remain key to planning, transparency, and sustainable development in Kano State.”
