Tension gripped residents of Iyana Isashi, Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, after a young man identified simply as Alex, also known as Fleximore, was shot dead by suspected gunmen.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Friday, when Alex was accosted by two men on a motorcycle while on his way to meet a friend. Eyewitnesses said one of the assailants pulled out a gun and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene.
“He had just returned from work before stepping out again. Suddenly, we heard a gunshot. People rushed out and found him lying in his own blood,” a resident told PUNCH Metro.
Alex was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remained in a coma until Wednesday morning, when he succumbed to his injuries despite doctors’ efforts to save him.
Residents disclosed that Alex had a heated altercation with some strangers at a nightclub in the community the night before the attack.
A friend, Quadri, told reporters:
“He usually doesn’t make trouble, but he reportedly clashed with some men at a club. Some people believe the shooting was connected to that fight.”
When contacted, Lagos Police PRO Abimbola Adebisi said she was aware of the incident but would seek confirmation from the Divisional Police Officer in the area.
The killing adds to growing insecurity along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway corridor, where cult-related and gun violence has become frequent. In August, PUNCH Metro reported a similar case where a passenger was shot dead inside a commercial bus in the same axis.
Arrangements are said to be underway for Alex’s burial.
